Worley Residence

Elgin, Texas

The owners of this 2,200 sf country house wanted a home that was sensitive to the history of the site, reflected the vernacular farmsteads of the area as well as their own electic taste, was energy efficient, and provided a simple, unpretentious, comfortable living environment.

Natural ventilation is maximized with a wrap-around porch, high venting dormer windows and a venting radiant barrier system. The pier and beam foundation provides for efficient air exchange beneath the house, while a modified convection chimney circulates fresh cool air through the interior spaces. Local and salvaged materials are used throughout the house. The design incorporates low-usage water fixtures and rainwater harvesting, while the Hardi-plank siding is a low-maintenance alternative to wood.
