Lars A. Stanley, AIA, opened shop in 1984 as a practitioner drawn to the dynamic between architecture and craft. Over the years, the practice has stayed true to its founding impulse, attracting participants interested in this collaborative endeavor and lively studio setting.
Lauren Woodward Stanley, AIA, joined the practice in 2005 as one such mutual collaborator. Along with her architectural background at various firms in Seattle, she brings an interest in landscape design and technology which blur distinctions between building and site, such as green roofs and green screens. Along with a passion for exploring the sustainable in “sustainability”, both Lars and Lauren have directed increasing focus on neighborhood and community-oriented design opportunities, from community gardens to re-imagining urban spaces as productive spaces using principles of permaculture.
Today, Stanley Architects and Artisans is a small office with an adaptive staff that flexes to meet the varying needs of a wide range of projects.
