We are currently designing an addition to the existing cabin, placing the addition just northeast of it.

Design considerations include:  daylighting, natural ventilation, use of straw-bale construction, spatial relationship of addition to existing structure, natural heating (winter)/cooling (summer), and visual connection to existing site/structures.

A couple of very rough sketches from one of the preliminary brainstorming sessions (click on images for larger picture):

Currently we are experimenting with making our own bricks using sand/clay from the site.  These bricks would be used as part of a central fireplace.  See some experimentation pictures in the images section.

Design is being finalized and presentation drawings and models are currently being produced.

More rough sketches from further design session.  Stay tuned for finalized drawings in the next week.
